1/16 Fried Tarantula in Cambodia
In the town of Skuon, Cambodia,fried tarantula is a delicacy. Its marinated in MSG, sugar and salt, and thenfried up in garlic. This popular regional dish is said to have more meat on it than a grasshopper, with a crunchy body and legs and a slightly soft abdomen, made up mostly of innards, eggs and excrement. The flavor is masked by chili seasoning.
While some say tarantula "tastes just like chicken," if you know what it is, it will probably taste just like you'd imagine it wouldÃ¢â¬" like a large, dead insect. The spiders are bred in holes in the ground in villages north of town, or foraged for in nearby forestland.
