1/15 Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye
There are few places on the planet more fantasy-like than the Isle of Skye, connected by bridge to the Scottish mainland. This island in the Inner Hebrides is home to some of the nation's most breathtaking landscapes, including the fairy pools, located at the foot of the Black Cuillins near Glenbrittle. These crystal clear, turquoise pools have been the sight of many films over the years, including "Stardust," starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro.
The pools not only make a perfect place for a picnic along the banks, but an ideal spot for the more adventurous to take a cool dip in the summer months. They look deceivingly warm, with the kind of vivid blue water associated with the Maldives, and though they're anything but, a quick swim can be especially invigorating. With lush green surroundings and twisted trees, it's hard not to imagine that fairies really do live here.
